Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics software designed for graphic designers and artists. The main difference between Illustrator and other graphic design software if that it can create vector images and raster images. Vector images are special because they can be enlarged but not become blurry or grainy like a raster image. These images are very common in logos due to the various sizes of things logos are put on.
Laser 101
- Create a two dimensional image in Illustrator
- If the image needs to be cut out versus the line needs to be changed from regular black or blue to red. This tells the laser to cut versus engrave.
- Once the design is saved to a flash drive or H drive it can be transferred to the laser.
- Once at the laser turn on the exhaust fan and turn on the laser.
- Place the desired, measured material in the laser
- Line up the edge of the material with the tip of the laser
- Close the lid and hit the big green go button
Vinyl Decals
Applying A Vinyl Decal
- Setup a design in Illustrator like what was done with the laser.
- No need to change the color of any lines because the vinyl cutter will cut everything out regardless of line color as it does not engrave.
- Save the file on a flash drive then take it to the computer linked with the vinyl cutter
- Insert desired vinyl into the cutter and line it up properly with the cutters in the machine and hit print
- Once the design is printed cut out the affected area and put the unused vinyl away
Applying A Vinyl Decal
- Find a flat surface to place the decal
- Peel off the unnecessary vinyl also known as weeding
- Press on the clear transfer vinyl and make sure there are no air bubbles
- Slowly peel off the clear transfer vinyl bringing the regular vinyl with it
- Now transfer the lifted design to the desired area and press it down without air bubbles
what I Learned
In this unit I have improved my overall computer skills and time management skills. I have also learned that I am not very good with computers overall and look forward to the next unit.
